Please - when I can no longer-
with my companions-
Catch the breeze
And lift, lift, lift-
Glide and sweep-
Glide and sweep
Across the skies.
When I can no longer fly -
Please have the eyes to see my exquisite beauty
Laid out before you as never before.

In the wind, it is the frail who dance most wildly.

Mystery

Hopeful for redemption,
I only tethered hope,
When I caught mystery by the wings
So mystery could not go.

Wonder is not mine to claim
Wonder needs to fly.
So light upon my finger now
I’ll giggle for awhile.

Then with jubilation
I’ll marvel when I see
The wings expand bejeweled
And fly away from me.

From hallowed halls of science
Comes pronouncement of disease
Raging rampant degradation
Plagues our healthy hearty leaves.

Yet atop a tree of wonder
In a more enchanted space
Dare we whisper -
Mystery - magic, turns a beauty leaf to lace?

Hand outstretched –
Near empty.
But filled enough
With seeds and shards
To bury and plant.
Settling and releasing
Old life and new
In one breath.
Beginnings and endings
The same.

Opening

Portals open
As life subsides,
Creating space
To see through
And finally
To walk through.
Life turning in on itself.
Opening.

Leaves –
How beautifully they age,
And whether by gentle breeze
Or frantic flurry,
How gracefully they let go.

See them –
Scattered, gathered…
Painted, sculpted…
Testaments to the artistry of time.

They patched you up Mama
Let you go on
Yet day on long day
Year on long year
Stroke ruled you –
Ruthless master! –
But could not quench your molten core.
Journey on indomitable spirit
Journey on.

Come with me to the meadowed hills my heart,
And rest.
Your sorrow is fatigue of soul.
Many things don't matter - but you don’t know.
Lay down, my heart.
You need not harden against this world.
Let the soft winds tickle.
Let the earth breathe for you.
Let your cares drain like rain.
You are earth
Stay until you know it in your soil.

Take your extravagant beauty,
Your loud laughing jewels (beauty for sure),
And give me my everyday crackly-grass muted tones.
Today the land’s humming soothes my soul.
