What an incredible contrast that's not really a contrast. The color (energy) of the slippers is replicated in the colorless, yet colorful background. There is a sense of warmth. The slippers evidently belong to an older, more frail individual, likely a woman. They hang, poignantly and powerfully in front of what might be perceived as fading vegetation (or life).
Lovely poem.
